Text 23 Jun erick’s final

One thing that is good about South Central is all the different people you get to meet. Unfortunately there are a few things that should change in South LA. We should have less gangs and less violence here. Even though there are some bad things about South Central i still enjoy going to school here. The three most important events that have had the greatest impact on making South Central, LA what it is today are early history of Watts, Crack Epidemic, and immigration.

The first event that helped shape South Central is the early history of Watts. LA was founded as a city on September 4, 1781. The founders of LA were full or mixed Africans and indigenous Mexican people. It is important to know that the first people in LA were blacks and Mexicans. Another cool thing to know is that oil was discovered in 1892.

The second event that made South LA what it is today is the Crack Epidemic. The Crack Epidemic was when crack cocaine was introduced into the black and brown communities. The CIA was responsible for introducing crack cocaine to help fight the Sandistas in Nicaragua. I think it’s important to know that our own government screwed over the black and brown communities. This destroyed many lives and many families. This is how it impacted South Central.

The last event that impacted South Los Angeles is immigration. One example of immigration is the movie Innocent Voices. There was a Civil War taking place in El Salvador about 20-30 years ago. The war started because the U.S. didn’t want communists to take over the country of El Salvador. The war lasted 12 years. This caused many Salvadorians to migrate to the U.S. Most of them settled in the South Central area. That’s how immigration had it’s impact on LA.

To Conclude, the three most important events that helped make South Central, Los Angeles what it is today are the early history of Watts, the Crack Epidemic, and immigration. I think South Central will continue to get better. I also think that it will only get better if the whole community tries to make it better. There’s always the people who will try to make it worse but i think we can overcome them.

Text 29 Mar Good Websites

A good website has a lot of info, isn’t all cramped up, and is colorful. What makes a bad website is when its hard to get around and is too colorful. I will try to make it easy to get around.

Text 11 Mar Community Walk Reflection

1. If a place isn’t taken care of people will continue to make it worse.

2. I found a lot of places that were uncared for. One example was on the corner of 108th i think. There was a broken chair in a spot that was filled with trash and had no sidewalk. The chair wasn’t there during 4th period so it just proves the broken window theory. Another thing i saw was that there was tagging on every bench at the bustops.

3. I saw that there were some nice homes in the community. Some houses were not cared for though. One business i saw that was repeated was auto shops. There were at least 2 or 3 auto places and at least 2 barber or beauty shops. It tells me that people like to run similiar businesses and not try to start a new one.
